Comment on Earth Day and Creation Care by Luke

I really enjoyed this article. We're on the same page, even though our wording is different (different paragraphs maybe?).

Like your #2: Humans rule over creation. That makes me cringe, not because I don't believe it, but because I've heard it used time and time again in the abuse of the earth. The thought of "We're in charge, we can do whatever we want." is tempting and leads to all sorts of (dare I say) sin.

I do agree that we have dominion and we're rules over the earth but many Christians ironically forget how Jesus rules/d and lead/s his disciples: through service (Mark 10:43).

Just wanted to point out the dangers I see in that statement even though I agree with it... I'm a weirdo. Love your statement "..as opposed to undermining earth-care, Christian theology actually bolsters a calling to care about creation."

Preach it!

Whoa dude. First, LOVE the Franklin/Aesop Jesus. You do that yourself? Skillz, mad skillz.

And the moral of "God helps those who cannot help themselves." absolutely! That'll preach! Let those who have ears, hear!

Jenny, no need to apologize!
You also bring up a good point about how tv normalizes behavior. We often forget that so much of what we watch is edited and crafted for entertainment. Which means we get an extremely distorted view of people and a distorted view of reality. We become addicts to constant drama and extreme behavior even when the tv is turned off.

This is the first blog I've read (sorry, Jon, but there it is), very seldom on the site. I very much enjoyed your humor and agree with you 100%. It's a shame that TV helps make improper - often offensive - behavior acceptable simply because it is profitable.

Not being a curmudgeon! Totally with ya with the power of TV and how ya gotta be awake when watching. Stories have power and the primary medium is the TV and there are some super TRASHY stuff on there.

I agree with your assessment and would add our addiction: Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2.

Thanks for the review and the shout-out! I'm right with you, somewhat leaning left but have that awful ability to poke holes in and also celebrate ideas from both sides. sometimes I like to call myself a "militant moderate" but don't feel strongly enough to say that ;-)

This post leads me back to the quote "Living within the event that is testified to in Christianity is more important than the affirmation that one is a Christian, or in other words, the event contained in the affirmation of God is more important than the belief in God" -Peter Rollins."

Maybe what we believe about politics and God should be left unsaid or for theoretical text books or systematic political/theology courses (my personal system is "systems fail") and we should focus on the outcome.

We have a mission to accomplish: a more equatable and stable society based on a good economy that doesn't throw wealth up to the top brackets while ignoring the other parts. I think that's a good mission. And there can be a variety of ways to get there save one: Supply Side Economics. That is what got us into this mess in the first place.

Might be a little harder when it comes to the theological side. I'll have to chew on that one. Plus there's a personal relationship with the source of life and the source of the vision (AKA: Jesus) that the political pragmatism doesn't have.

Anywho, rant over. Thanks for the post. You rawk and junk.

Beat me to the punch again Komperda! Great to read and see your thoughts now as to when we were discussing them. Will post tomorrow about my view.

I'm with ya: Integration. Unity within Diversity. Not all the same but all heading towards a common goal of the Kingdom of God and transformation in God's spirit.
